  • Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS):  You use resources from a cloud provider – such as servers, storage space, networks or operating systems. For this, you pay fees that depend on how intensively you use the services.
  • Platform as a Service (PaaS):  You use a virtual platform in the network to develop a mobile app, for example. You manage your applications yourself. The venue, on the other hand, is governed by the provider.

Software as a Service (SaaS):  You work with software applications provided by a cloud provider – depending on your needs. You connect to the application via a web browser on your PC, tablet, or smartphone as a user.

These Are The Advantages Of Cloud Computing

  • Costs: You save the expenditure for hardware and software and personnel who look after your company’s data center.
  • Speed: Use cloud services and quickly mobilize additional computing power if necessary. This helps you if, for example, you have to set up a web application for a customer with little advance notice. This removes the pressure to plan huge capacities well in advance. That makes you more flexible in your day-to-day work.
  • Scaling as needed:  Cloud services will enable demand scaling. This means that you are using the right amount of resources, such as storage capacity or bandwidth, exactly when you need them.
  • Productivity: While you have to put a lot of effort into setting up and operating your local data center, this is no longer necessary with cloud computing. This leaves you time for other business activities.
  • Performance: Complex cloud services run over a global network of data centers. These receive regular updates and, therefore, always have the fastest hardware. This is how you use the most robust performance for applications in the cloud.
  • Reliability: Since every cloud provider stores available data in several locations in its network, it is not lost. This makes it easier to back up data and restore it in an emergency.

These Are The Disadvantages Of Cloud Computing

Like any new technology, cloud computing has its limits. These are the disadvantages:

  • Network access: You urgently need a fast internet connection, as you can only use cloud services online. However, you will not get a corresponding bandwidth at every location. As a result, work processes may slow down.
  • Growing functions: As the cloud providers update their applications constantly and expand, you need to stay updated and often newly incorporated again.
  • Security: If you use cloud services, you usually reveal very personal data. In addition to your name, place of residence, email address, and telephone number. Your data is stored in the cloud, and some of it is also passed on and copied. Since the servers of many cloud providers are located in other EU countries, the data protection laws of the home country apply. These are usually less strict than the EU directives. You risk poorer protection of your data.
  • Cybercrime: Since computer systems from cloud providers are often the target of hacker attacks, there is a risk of loss and thus possible misuse of your data.
