iPhone 17 Series: Everything We Know

iPhone 17

With every new iPhone Apple pushes the limit on what can be done on a smartphone. Arguing that is taking such a pace, iPhone 17 collection that is expected to be advantageous for the developers in 2025 would see improvements in terms of performance enhancements, camera optimization, artificial intelligence (AI-driven) features and design accommodations.

In this article, we will review its lineup, design, hardware, cameras, software capability, battery and charging, connectivity, price and what to expect for some suggestions.

iPhone 17 Model Hierarchy

From the iPhone 17 (base) and iPhone 17 Pro to a new thinner and lighter iPhone Air and the iPhone 17 Pro Max, Apple has now rounded out its lineup with the iPhone Air, a device it says truly takes on the mantle of the recently discontinued “Plus” series of phones due to be thinner, lighter and offer many flagship features.

Base iPhone 17 is the entry-level flagship of Apple, sharing some of the advancements of the Pro line with some sacrifices on the other side. The Pro and Pro Max feature the most robust hardware overall (cameras, cooling, memory and battery life), and iPhone Air is more aimed towards the customer that prioritizes both slimness and portability along with reasonable specs.

Preorders on the device were opened on September 12, 2025 and the general sale of the device happened on September 19. Meanwhile, Apple also participates in such trade-in programs which make upgrades more attractive.

Design & Display

In terms of design, Apple’s iPhone 17 remains with flat-edged design, which is in line with Apple’s design direction over the past generations. Apple enlarged the screen area a bit for the base variant, as opposed to 6.1 inches of last generation, the iPhone 17 is equipped with a 6.3-inch OLED panel. The bezels are removed for a more immersive experience while keeping the drastic increase in size to a minimum.

Apple protects well against scratches with Ceramic Shield 2, which it claims is three times more scratch-resistant than previous glass technology. On the Face ID side of the front glass, various light-sensing Face ID sensors are retained.

The display is packed with 120 Hz ProMotion, Adaptive Refresh Rates including lowering the adaptive refresh rate for display power consumption saving, and Always-On display. Light intensity can be up to 3000 nits which is a huge improvement over the older models.

The Lavender iPhone 17 comes in Mist Blue, Sage, Black, and White. The iPhone Air comes in Sky Blue, Space Black, Light Gold and Cloud White. Donut is offered in Pro models in the colors: Cosmic Orange Deep Blue and Silver.

Chips, Memory & Performance

The A19 chip has been one among the advanced new features unveiled in the iPhone 17 lineup. Apple packs the iPhone 17 (base) with the A19 non-Pro (third-generation 3nm process). It consists of a 6-core CPU (which is split between performance and efficiency cores), 5-core GPU and 16-core Neural Engine. Each core inside the GPU also contains a Neural Accelerator that can also be used to accelerate on-device AI workloads.

The Pro and Pro Max models utilize the A19 Pro, as promised, offering higher performance and more cache. Additionally, they feature guaranteed sustained performance thanks to improved cooling and increased thermal headroom.

In preliminary benchmarks, the A19 is apparently supposed to have become the world’s fastest single-core CPU (according to PassMark results) just a bit ahead of Apple’s M3 Ultra chip and rival desktop CPUs – helped by the A19’s significantly more energy-efficient performance.

Cameras & Imaging

Cameras are always a selling point of the iPhones, and they have added major enhancements in the iPhone 17 series.

Base iPhone 17

The base model still has an alloy setup with both the Fusion wide lens and the Ultra Wide lens at the front and ago combination, both 48 MP. There has also been a huge improvement to the Ultra Wide as compared to the other 12 MP variants with improved low light performance and better macro capability. Max zoom for Fusion is 2x optical and 1x and 0.5x sensor crop.

Another novel feature is the simultaneous capture of video from both front and rear cameras, known as dual capture, which is useful when a reaction or commentary needs to be captured on video. The first camera (3G) is upgraded to 18 megapixels with a square sensor, this feature makes it possible to capture in portrait and landscape without rotating the mobile phone.

Pro / Pro Max Models

In the Pro series, Apple is launching a triple 48MP Fusion camera setup (main, ultra wide and telephoto), the telephoto lens using a tetraprism allowing 4x and 8x optical magnification (with no serious compromises) and up to 40x magnification in the digital domain. This gives you the maximum zoom on an iPhone that we have seen.

Seeing as the main function of both of these lenses is to display the image in the viewfinder at any setting the photographer chooses, removing zoom and the other controllable lens functions Pro models add computational videographic power (ProRes RAW, Log 2 shooting, genlock and a huge increase in low light photon capture and noise removal). Each of the back three cameras can capture video at 4K resolution, and above 30 frames per second.

Battery & Charging

Where battery life efficiency occurs, it has always been an area of high intensity. The iPhone 17 series, inspired by battery efficiency enhancements, is attributed to enhanced chip and power management capabilities.

Apple states that the basic iPhone 17 has successfully achieved up to 30 hours of video playback (up to 24 hours in past generations), and up to 27 hours of streaming video.

The iPhone 17 Pro and Pro MAX versions go even further: the former promises up to 33 hours of video playback, while the Pro MAX version is even better at 39 hours of playback. As far as maximum battery life is concerned, this is the highest that your iPhone can possibly achieve.

Charging time is reduced. Apple recently announced 50% charging up to 20 minutes capabilities provided with the appropriate 40W+ (or more) power adapter.

Connectivity & Networking

iPhone 17 series connectivity makes gigantic improvements. Wi-Fi 7 introduces higher data rates, lower latency and improved network efficiency in high-density wireless environments. Better device pairing and data throughput is offered by Bluetooth 6. Smart home or mesh networking (Thread networking) support is also added.

Since there are no external chipset vendors (Qualcomm), Apple’s integrated C1 and N1 modem and wireless media chip certainly provides the best guarantees to power, performance and integration into the Apple silicon ecosystem. From flashy NFC smart key, to dual frequency GPS, and then there’s of course the UWB spatial technologies (Ultra Wide Band) – all of which make contactless services, and location accuracy, a real possibility.

Apple Watch and Apple Air Version

In addition to the iPhone 17 series, Apple has also introduced the next generation of Apple Watch Apple Watch Series 10 and the Apple Watch Air.

Apple Watch series 10 has thinner case, brighter MicroLED display and better sapphire coated case. It has superior sensors (heart rate, blood oxygen, sleep tracking, and body temperature) and superior AI-based wellness data.

Apple Watch Air is a thin and lightweight smartwatch that is made up of aluminum with a thinner profile to complement the iPhone Air. It has everything it needs for good health while taking into consideration the need for portability and comfort during the day. The battery lasts up to 36 hours on a moderate consumption rate and by means of the new low power mode the battery lasts up to 48 hours.

Both of these watches are powered by the S10 chip and they provide 30% faster performance and an AI-based adaptive tracking system that learns your habits and adapts the metrics.
